Features of Natural Interest

Alderney is home to many species of small mammal including Greater white-toothed shrew, black rat, grey-long eared, pipistrelle and whiskered bat species and the Western European hedgehog. A large percentage of Alderney’s hedgehogs are leucistic, causing them to be blonde in colour rather than brown. The island has no terrestrial large mammal species.
